Recognition

2026 South Carolina Vetrepreneur of the Year

Each year, Military Friendly recognizes outstanding veteran business owners and names an honoree for each state. In 2026, South Carolina’s honoree was me. Here is what the award is, who gives it, and why it might matter to your move.

What this award actually is

Vetrepreneur® of the Year is an annual award from Military Friendly®, the organization behind the Military Friendly Schools and Military Friendly Employers designations you have probably seen on university and company websites. Military Friendly is operated by VIQTORY, which is itself a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business. Veterans evaluating veterans, in other words.

The award recognizes veteran business owners for how they build and run their companies. It is not a sales trophy and it is not something you buy a table at a gala to receive. Each year an honoree is named for each state. For 2026, the South Carolina honoree was me.

You do not have to take my word for any of this. The announcement lives on Military Friendly’s own site, photo and all.

The road that led here

I was the first person in my family to graduate from college. I spent six years in the Air Force as an all-source intelligence analyst, work where being wrong has real consequences, and later deepened that training through the CIA. After the uniform came a nonprofit CEO role in the government, justice, and national security space, a PMP certification, and a question I have asked myself at every big turn since:

What’s the worst that could happen?

The question Military Friendly pulled out of my story for the award profile

That question is how a kindergarten teacher ends up in an intel shop, how an analyst ends up running an organization, and how a CEO ends up helping families buy and sell homes in the Lowcountry. Real estate is not a fallback for me. It is the first career I chose entirely for myself, and I run it like a business that has to earn its reputation one transaction at a time. That is the part the award saw.

Why this matters if you are buying or selling

An award does not negotiate your repair list. So here is the practical read on what it tells you:

  • It measures how the business is run. The recognition is for operating discipline as a business owner, not for volume. The homework-first, tell-you-the-truth-early way I work is the thing that got noticed.
  • If you are a military family, this is a specialty and not a checkbox. VA loans, BAH math, PCS timelines, and buying a house from three time zones away are core to my practice. Start with military relocation or VA home buying.
  • If you are not military, you still get the same habits. Full transaction histories, permit chains, deed records, and a straight answer about what I find, even when it costs me the easy yes.

If that sounds like the kind of agent you want in your corner, I would love to meet you. And if you are a veteran thinking about starting your own business, I will save you some suspense: the worst that could happen is usually smaller than you think.
