The Market
What you need to know about West Ashley.
West Ashley is Charleston's most established suburban corridor, a broad area west of the Ashley River with neighborhoods ranging from 1950s ranch homes to new construction townhomes to waterfront estates on the Stono. The Avondale neighborhood has become one of the most vibrant dining and social scenes in the metro. Access to downtown is quick via the Ashley River bridges. And the price point, historically below Mount Pleasant and James Island for comparable square footage, continues to attract buyers who are priced out elsewhere. West Ashley is having a moment, and values are moving to reflect it.
On the horizon
The biggest change coming to West Ashley is Ashley Landing, EDENS's roughly $300 million redevelopment of the aging shopping center on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard into about 285 apartments, 100 townhomes, and 240,000 square feet of retail and green space. Woodfield Development has now closed on the multifamily parcel, the signal that construction, not just planning, is next. It is the largest single investment in West Ashley's history.
