License plate cameras.
Solar-powered readers photograph plates as cars pass and send that data into a searchable network. Most plates belong to people suspected of nothing. South Carolina has no statewide rule for how long the data is kept or who outside the county can query it.
- A commute is part of the house. Schools, flood, and new construction matter. So does knowing whether plate readers sit between home, work, and the grocery store.
- The pins are community-sourced. They come from OpenStreetMap tags (
surveillance:type=ALPR), the same feed DeflockSC uses. Cameras get missed. Report what you find there. - This is research. I am not affiliated with DeflockSC. The layer sits next to permits and road projects so you can decide what it means.
